Google Adds Place Pages to Google Earth
Google has started including Place Pages in Google Earth. Place Pages are the pages that Google sets up for places and businesses that have been accessible via Google Maps for a little while. They incorporate photos, videos, reviews and other content about that particular business or place, into one spot. Google Earth users who browse the world in 3D will now be able to bring these Place Pages up when clicking on a business or a place, and clicking "view more information." In addition, users can expand individual sections to see more content: "If you're a business owner, you can update your details in our Local Business Center, to ensure we're showing the most accurate information to people searching for your business in both Google Maps and Google Earth," says Google Earth Associate Product Manager Matt Holden. It's interesting to see Google include Place Pages in Google Earth, not long after the discovery of Google showing AdSense ads in it . That topic is of particular interest, as Google's policy on AdSense prohibits people from including ads places that are not web-based, Google Earth being a desktop application. Continue reading

Google Reportedly Readying Property Portal in UK
According to the Financial Times, Google is in talks with estate agents in Britain to launch an online property portal for the UK, similar to one that already exists in Australia. Through that one, agents list properties and show pictures from Google Maps Street View. FT cites Douglas & Godon (an estate firm) commercial director Ed Mead as its source, who claims to have spoken with Google about the plans. No comment has been received from Google on the matter. "It looks very simple. If it stays free, then Google has a massive winner on its hands as it will get the backing from estate agents currently paying for rival sites," Mead is quoted as saying. Concern has been expressed as to how such a portal would affect other UK-based real estate web sites, but in Australia, such sites are still getting listings. However, some also think Google getting more heavily involved in real estate listings could have a further effect on newspapers, which are obviously already struggling. Last month Google added some new real estate features to Google maps. Now you can just search for "real estate" or other real estate-related geographical queries and get listings. Listings now have their own "place pages." Related Articles: > Continue reading

Why Horizontal Content Sites Make for Attractive Models
Those new to blogging or article writing have often been told to focus on one very niche topic. One narrow vertical. That has commonly been considered the way to gain credibility, readers, links, and ultimately traffic, which assuming the blog/site itself isn't your primary source of income, could lead to sales of your products/services. But is keeping it narrow really the best way to go? For some, it is. Another way to go would be to cover as much ground as you possibly can. Throw a wide net out there and see what you catch. Once you see what you've caught, maybe you can catch more in the same area. The thinking is that the more ground you cover, the more people you are potentially exposing your work to. It's going horizontal, rather than vertical. Do you think you could find greater success by keeping it narrow or broad? Continue reading
