Microsoft Launches Bing iPhone App

Microsoft has launched a Bing app for the iPhone. It's now available for download in the Apple App store. Of course the iPhone app is not the first mobile experience Bing has offered. There is already Bing for Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, Sidekick and select BREW-based devices on Verizon. Key features of the iPhone app include: - Daily image from Bing.com - Easy to access voice search - Tips and tricks on the home page - "Locate Me" functionality - Ability to add pushpins and save locations - Show multiple locations on a single map "Our investments in voice search (you may have played with them on Windows phones or BlackBerry already) continues in our iPhone App and works great for map locations as well as old fashioned web search," says Justin Jed of Bing for mobile. "Just say 'San Francisco weather,' for a quick result, or even say a full address for a map or directions. Continue reading

iTunes Lets You See Previews Without the Download

Apple has launched iTunes Preview, which is a means of showing what music is available on iTunes right in the web browser. This seems like an incredibly obvious way to do it, and one that many have been waiting for way too long, but now if you want to look at the iTunes catalog, without having to install iTunes, you can do so. You can't listen to song previews without installing iTunes, but at least you can see what they have. You do still have to download iTunes to purchase music. According to MacWorld , the feature only works for music, but could probably be applied to video at some point. The feature can be accessed at the iTunes Charts page or clicking on a link from the music store. When you go to a preview page, you can see information for the album like the track listing, the length, and the price. There are also reviews that you can read through. If you go to the Charts page , you can search for other artists and songs and get to preview pages for those results. However, if you click on the link on the search results page that says "view more results in iTunes," it will take you to the iTunes download page (assuming you don't have it installed). UPS Launches App For iPhone Users

UPS has introduced a new application for iPhone and iPod touch users that ships and tracks packages and also uses built-in GPS features to find the closest UPS store. Available at the APP Store, the new UPS Mobile APP for iPhone allows users to track shipments, create shipments using the My UPS address book, calculate shipping rates and time-in-transit. The free shipping app is part of other UPS tools for Apple users. NRG Software, a UPS partner, has recently added NRGship Mac to its shipping software lineup as a Mac application. "Apple users are an innovative group of customers who appreciate the capabilities that make the most of their devices," said Jordan Colletta, vice president of customer technology marketing at UPS. "These new solutions help them take full advantage of the world's largest package delivery company." IPhone and iPod touch users can use their devices to access their UPS address book and preferences and create shipping labels, which can be emailed in a PDF file for printout. After printing the label, people can use the app's "find locations" feature, which uses the built-n GPS to find a UPS location. The iPhone App does not require login for tracking. When logged, the application shows a history of tracked shipments and automatically refreshes when the app is opened. Continue reading

Verizon CEO on iPhone: It’s Entirely Apple’s Call

Recently during a third-quarter conference call Verizon CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, stated that bringing the iPhone to Verizon is a decision that is totally up to Apple. Do you think the iPhone will ever be on Verizon? Tell us what you think . Below is the full quote from the conference call... “ This is a decision that is exclusively in Apple’s court ... Obviously we would be interested if they thought it would make sense for them to have us as a partner. And so we will leave it with them on that score. We want to broaden the base of choice for customers, and hopefully along the way, Apple, as well as others, will decide to jump on the bandwagon.” Previously, Seidenberg has said that he believes that Apple would likely wait until 2010 to bring the iPhone to Verizon , as this is when the new 4G LTE wireless network will be rolling out. The new 4G network features the same standards as AT&T as well as other providers, which would make the iPhone's transition much easier. With the new " Droid Does " advertising campaign in full swing, it could make negotiations between Verizon and Apple quite uncomfortable . Some have even speculated that Verizon doesn't see Apple partnering with them and will begin burning bridges with even harsher advertisements. Your choice: iPhone on AT&T or Verizon - Tell us which one you choose . Related Articles: > Continue reading

Is Google Wave Getting An App Store?

The rollout for Google Wave seems to be going a bit slower than anyone would like , but this hasn't stopped Google from discussing its plans for the future. During the Google Wave GTUG (Google Technology User Group) meeting in London the company the company released one interesting detail that has the web buzzing. According to The Next Web , Google has definite plans to create a Google Wave App Store , which will make it possible for developers to earn money for their developmental efforts. An app store gives us a glimpse of how Google plans to monetize the service, as they would more than likely take a cut of each app purchased. Do you have a Google Wave account? Tell us . The blog goes on speculate about the various possibilities of the Google Wave App Store: "With an app store specifically for Google Wave however, the potential for something as great, if not greater then than the iPhone App Store is a distinct possibility. Already, independent software developers have built and tested Wave applications that handle such tasks as teleconferencing, videoconferencing, and multiplayer gaming, but while the Apple App Store sells software only for the iPhone and Touch, a Wave marketplace could stock in-Wave applications, along with desktop applications, browser extensions and a world of devices, from laptops, phones, tablets and more with built in Wave support." A Google Wave App Store does make sense , but the one thing you need to be successful is users ... which is something that Google Wave is currently lacking. Google only invited 100,000 people to Wave last month , while others are slowly receiving invites. Just to give you a basis for comparison, the iPhone App Store, which is the gold standard, currently has well over 40 million iPhone/iPod Touch owners and over 100,000 apps . Google Wave users shouldn't be anticipating an app store anytime soon, but it's just something they should keep in the back of their minds. Could you see yourself paying for a Google Wave app?
