Amazon In eBook Deal With Best Selling Author

Amazon.com said today it would start offering electronic versions of books by business author Stephen Covey exclusively in its Kindle Store. Electronic versions of Stephen Covey's best-selling books, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" and "Principle-Centered Leadership" are available in the Kindle Store for $7.99. The e-books are being published through RosettaBooks. Previously the print editions of the books were published through Simon & Schuster. The new deal with Amazon will give Covey more than half of the net proceeds from sales of the e-books. Covey also has plans to release an upcoming book "Great Work, Great Career" exclusively in the Kindle Store. "This is the first time these books have been available in a digital format, and I'm happy to be able to offer them exclusively on Kindle," said Covey. "With so many readers using Kindle, this is a very effective way to reach people who want to easily download the books and begin reading them instantly." Amazon Launches Packaging Certification Program

Amazon.com is launching a Frustration-Free Packaging certification program aimed at convincing manufacturers to provide more user-friendly packaging. "Wrap rage is real," said Dr. Nadia Shouraboura, vice president of Global Fulfillment for Amazon. "We launched packaging feedback and we were surprised by the customer participation and response world-wide. Our customers told us they want packaging that is easier to open, and is free of wire ties and impenetrable plastic clamshells." "We are launching the certification program to share customer feedback with manufacturers and provide an easy way for manufacturers to modify their packaging to make it Frustration-Free. We want to give customers the best possible experience from the time the order is placed, to when they remove the items from the packaging." Manufacturers that want to get their packaging Certified Frustration-Free can submit their packaging to Amazon's team of engineers for free. The team will analyze the packaging and determine if it needs modifications. Manufacturers that become certified can then use the "Certified Frustration-Free" logo on their packaging. Amazon Kindle For PC Now Available

Amazon.com has released its free Kindle for PC application that allows users to read books on their personal computer without having to own the e-reader device. The move comes as Amazon aims to make it s Kindle content available on a broader range of devices. Kindle books can now be read on the iPhone, iPod touch, Kindle DX and now a PC. Amazon has made its Kindle for PC available for free download to users in over 100 countries. The U.S. Kindle store offers access to more than 360,000 books, including new releases, which are usually priced at $9.99 or less. Kindle for PC features include Amazon's Whispersync technology that automatically saves and synchronizes bookmarks and last page read across devices. The Kindle for PC allows users to read some on their PC and some on a Kindle, while saving their place. "Kindle for PC is the perfect companion application for customers who own a Kindle or Kindle DX," said Ian Freed, vice president, Amazon Kindle. "Kindle for PC is also a great way for people around the world to access a huge selection from the Kindle Store and read the most popular books of today even if they don't yet have a Kindle."
